UK Refugee Says Sister Died of Cancer After Visa Denial

Anwar relocated from Gaza to Glasgow in 2020. He received British refugee status in 2021. He submitted a visa request in October 2025 for his brother Hassan, his brother’s wife Maryam, two children, and other relatives.

Immigration authorities denied the application. Maryam remained in Gaza and later died from cancer. Anwar states the decision directly affected her survival. He believes she would still be alive if officials had approved the relocation.

The request followed widespread destruction in Gaza after the Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023. The family remains separated by the denied visa.
